HISTORY
The West Central Wildcats were formed in 2004. The Wildcats were formed to bring competitive semi-pro football to Clay County, Indiana. In their inaugural 2004 season, the Wildcats struggled to field a team of more than 17 players. Prior to the beginning of the 2004 season, the Wildcats Management Staff focused their efforts on obtaining a home playing field and membership into the Midwest Football League (MFL). The Wildcats had great success in their search for both.
In 2004, the City of Brazil accepted the Wildcats proposal to host its home games at the Clay Youth Field while simultaneously working to improve the field itself and help support the youth teams that also call it home.
During the 2005 season, the Wildcats showed great promise with a strong nucleus of players and a dominating defense. The Wildcats offense was erratic throughout the season, starting 2 different quarterbacks as a necessity due to injuries and inconsistent play. The offense had its ups and downs, but the defense was rock solid throughout the season and helped the Wildcats finish to a 7-4 regular season record. The beginning of the season was a rocky one starting 0-1 in regular season play, but the Wildcats rose to the occasion as the season progressed and qualified for the MFL playoffs. The Wildcats drew a home game for their first wild-card playoff and destroyed the Jay-Randolph Cougars to complete a series sweep from their first meeting of the season.
It was then on to Muncie, IN as the Wildcats came in with high hopes of eliminating the defending 2004 MFL North Division champion Delaware County Chargers in the MFL Divisional Playoff game. The Wildcats had beaten the Chargers in week 2, which was highlighted by the Wildcats dominating defense.
From there it was on to Marion, IN, where the Wildcats would face the only league team they lost to all season, the Grant County Scorpions. The Scorpions beat the Wildcats twice during the 2005 season. The Scorpions drew first blood by scoring the opening touchdown, but then the Wildcats defense took over and put the offense in position to score 20 unanswered points to win their first and only league championship, 20-6.
GO WILDCATS!
